Jeff, Mike and Carrie review this week's news in the amusement industry.

  • The Fall Affair at Holiday World is in the books for 2010, with about 130 people attending.
  • Mike did the water park, and loves the way the size handles the crowds.
  • Holiday World and Splashin' Safari announces new stuff for next year. [Ed. note: We forgot to mention the new family slides! -J]
  • The crew talks about the joys of road tripping. And rental cars.
  • Six Flags keeps adding Paramount Parks folk to its lineup. Cedar Fair loses.
  • Universal modifies Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey to accommodate larger people, and it's part of a trend around Orlando. Jeff gets on a pretty long rant about eating right and not being so damn lazy when it comes to convenience. Carrie makes the case that there's big cultural change that has to happen.
  • SeaWorld Orlando makes some temporary changes to minimize risk to trainers.
  • Owner of Geauga Lake's Big Dipper continues to make an ass out of himself with attention whoring and threats to tear down the ride.
  • Six Flags Great Adventure announces Chang, er, Green Lantern. It's new to them!
  • Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Tampa tease new stuff.
  • Luna Park at Coney Island has crazy good year. What's next?
  • Cedar Point's Mean Streak catches fire, but it's not serious, much to the dismay of enthusiasts everywhere.
  • New restaurants open at Epcot, Jeff says he'd like to get down there for the food and wine festival one of these years.

Jeff, Gonch, Mike and Carrie review this week's news in the amusement industry.

  • The Fall Affair, this Saturday at Holiday World. On-site registration will be $45, or $20 if you have a ticket or season pass. It looks like we've got 100 people so far.
  • Gunmen rob Six Flags Discovery Kingdom workers. How do you get away with that given the closed nature of the park?
  • Former employees of Freestyle Music Park get in line for unpaid compensation.
  • Geauga Lake Big Dipper drama continues... to be silly. Anonymous seller now says it's doomed for the wrecking ball if it isn't bought by September 15.
  • Six Flags continues to flesh out its executive team with a new CEO and chief lawyer.
  • Ticket, parking and food pricing: What's the magic formula? Jeff and Gonch prefer the front-loading approach, with higher pass/ticket prices. Mike says Six Flags would likely alienate much of their audience that way. What would Holiday World do?
  • SeaWorld loses an Orca. Apparently no one here cares.
  • Dreamworld teases their new tower car, and the panel fails to watch it. They suck.
  • Busch Gardens Williamsburg also teases. Gonch watched that one and thought it was like a Japanese monster movie.
  • Cedar Fair reports rise in attendance and revenue, per cap overall is down a little. Jeff's tired of $12 subs. We ask again, is the recession on the upside?
  • Waldameer also has a good year, will build more rides. And charm.
  • Six Flags Over Texas Under Water. Gonch watched that one too.
  • Retired Kennywood worker's funeral procession rolls through park. Carrie points out that most people probably would not want to visit their place of work postmortem.
  • Disney's California Adventure rehab continues. Mike says it'll be nice when the construction is done.
  • Kentucky Kingdom comeback looking more likely. If it happens, what might the impact on Holiday World be?
  • New park for Spain with a Paramount Pictures theme. One of our Brit friends says it's in an area not exclusively touristy.
  • Carousel horse auction in NYC. Jeff "finds" PTC 45 at a zoo in Seattle, having been relocated from Great America in Santa Clara, and the Cincinnati Zoo before that.
  • Golden Tickets issued again, few surprises. It's another weird relationship between the industry and the magazine. Holiday World wins big.
  • BooBuzz returns to Cedar Point on Friday, October 15.

Jeff, Gonch and Carrie review this week's news in the amusement industry.

  • Petting zoos and germs. Gonch wants to touch goats then lick his hands.
  • Ape and tiger hijinks in Miami.
  • Rye Playland: Public or private? Is it OK for government to run such a thing?
  • Orlando parks report injuries, and it's just the normal heart attacks, falls and scraped knees. Queue accidents not really news, by the way. Speaking of running, the bulls still run at Cedar Point.
  • Charged ride operators at Dells Extreme World not tested for any drugs. Discussions of weed legality and the design of the ride itself are plentiful.
  • Yet another teenager tries to stick it to The Man and steal from the amusement park he works at. Duh.
  • Zamperla cleared of liability in 2004 Hawk accident in Pigeon Forge, as criminal trial demonstrated fault of the owner.
  • Six Flags Over Georgia is building a Gerstlauer Euro Fighter, the conversation begins with silly marketing. Or Maverick.
  • Six Flags Great America is expanding their water park, and Jeff still wonders why they didn't do it as a separate gate. More slides, cabanas and stuff.
  • Disney is getting all TRON-o-rific with a TRON dance party. Jeff remembers the goofy video format his dad had.
  • SeaWorld parks designates a new chairman for its board.
  • Some dude trying to sell Geauga Lake's Big Dipper doesn't want anyone to know his name because coaster enthusiasts called him names. Jeff mentions that there were more than enough opportunities to score that ride, for free.
  • Register today for The Fall Affair at Holiday World! Join us Saturday, September 18.
  • BooBuzz returns to Cedar Point on Friday, October 15.
