Jeff and Pat review this week's news in the amusement industry.

  • Where has the CoasterBuzz Podcast been?
  • Kids injured on Six Flags Great America's Tornado slide. Rider behavior issue? We suspect it is.
  • Marriage on a roller coaster.
  • Columbus Zoo scores Wyandot Lake stuff.
  • Disney sued over Mission: Space death.
  • Cedar Fair's public offering.
  • The Gravity Group is on the up and up. Good for them!
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Now with more Depp!
  • Cedar Fair and Paramount Parks show us the money.
  • What time is it right now at Indiana Beach?
  • Zippin Pippin saved from certain death, but now what?
  • Alternative parking against the Six Flags parking machine.
  • Six Flags stock tanks when Shapiro gets honest. Wall Street is over-reacting.

This just goes to show why no one cares about podcasting and it will never become a real alternative to broadcast radio.

Jeff | 6/26/2006 9:22 AM

56 million people by 2010 sure is a lot of careless people.

Predictions are nice, lets look at broadcast radio's numbers.

Jeff | 6/26/2006 1:31 PM

You mean the part where people are listening satellite and podcasts?

Broadcast radio has been on the decline in terms of content for at least a decade. If you think podcasting is a fad, you should mention it to Steve Jobs, who gets richer every day by way of people that want to listen to what they want, when they want. You're a dinosaur, dude.

Actually am a suscriber to XM, but Steve Job's sure lets people listen to what they want when they want by supporting other music stores with the I-Pod and all. ::points at the European Union. I'm sure you would bring up Steve Jobs as you happen to love censoring ideas that vary from your own.

Don't go off topic with insults at me... it just shows you have no argument.

Fair enough, I just don't see the point of most podcasts. What most talk about I can read about in five minutes. The only way their relevant is when someone well known is doing one. Its another way of reaching out to a differnt audience, but with so many people doing the same podcast, just differnt topics, people are going to loose interest. With so many podcasts else out their, its a waste of effort and time.

Jeff | 6/26/2006 3:24 PM

"Their" relevancy depends on the niche. You'd never hear a show like this on radio. That's the point. If people would "loose" interest there would be fewer shows and listeners, not more. You can't judge what's considered a waste of time for someone else. If ten people listened to this show, instead of a thousand, I'd do it anyway.

Fair enough, I can respect that.

Once again gentelmen, a fun and exciting podcast! I think what makes the Coasterbuzz podcast relavant is that you get to hear Jeff and Pat and others with inflections and tone. This is something you don't get when you're just reading a reply. For example, perhaps there's something that Jeff says on Coasterbuzz that you might get offended by. He makes the same comment here, and it might have actually been a funny or sarcastic comment. Emoticons just don't do the job as well as a broadcast does. Anyway, enough of that.

1) Tornado accident-At SFA last year, they had two choices of boat--the standard Cloverleaf, and the new Whirly Wheel which only seats two people. I can't comment on which they might have been riding because we skipped the Tornado at HH. I can tell you however, that it has an autospiel regarding safety "Hold onto handles at all times" etc. I think the comment about the boat not being able to go higher than another boat is not true. If you have a heavier boat, you're going to go higher up the wall, which I saw demonstrated time and time again last year at SFA. It is possible though that these kids did not follow direction like some teenagers last year at SFA who ditched the boat as it came down the slide.
2) Time Change in Indiana-I think they need to get the word out on that better because we certainly got caught up in that coming from Chicago. I looked at a bank in town and was shocked to see we were back on Eastern time again. One thing that does stink about the time change was that it was still fairly bright at 9:45 at night.
3) I seem to remember reading that the S:ROS faternl twins were $17 million a piece, before marketing.
